Happy Sunday my lovelies!
I have been a blogger for as long as I can remember. I believe I first dabbled into it in 2001 – long before I even knew what blogging was. I simply went online and started writing. Writing was something I had always wanted to do. It wasn’t just a hobby for me, but an outlet to connect with my innermost thoughts. And I haven’t looked back ever since.
Starting a book blog
I’ve always toyed with the idea of creating a book blog – I do write a fairly popular food blog, which I started over 20 years ago that’s still going strong! Heaven knows how many times I’ve started a book blog and let it die. Somehow, I’ve always felt intimidated by talking about the books I’ve read to complete strangers. To friends however, I can’t stop recommending the ones that I enjoyed reading. Funny isn’t it? This time however, I intend to pull through.
I’m at a point in my life where I’m craving, or maybe even needing a change. Nothing drastic, but definitely something different from the mundane. A shift in my routine. A slight shake to the monotony. So I’ve decided to simply go back – back to the simple joys, the little things. Things that bring a smile to my face and a twinkle to my eyes. Things that I always looked forward to and took immense comfort in. Things like reading, and writing and art.
Taking an art class
I was pretty excited to begin an abstract acrylic painting course next week and had been really looking forward to it, so I was quite bummed that it got cancelled due to lack of interest. Oh well, I guess I just need to keep looking for something similar to pop up. The problem is, it is quite hard to find anything that deals with abstract art – especially something around my area since I don’t really wish to spend too much time traveling too far into the city. But let’s see… I’m hopeful that I can find something up my alley.
Joining a book club
I’ve also decided to join a book club at my local library. I chanced upon this one that only reads historical fiction which just happens to be one of my favourite genres in books. Funnily enough, I’ve never been a part of a book club. In fact, I’ve never even buddy read with anyone before, so needless to say I’m super thrilled! We’re reading Lady Tan’s Circle of Women by Lisa See this month and she just happens to be an author I really enjoy reading. I’ve read a few books of hers and loved them, so I had ordered a copy of this as soon as it came out in stores. I’ve been saving it for the perfect time and I guess this is just what I needed. So watch out for a review of the book as well as my experience on my first book club meet. Can you tell that I’m excited?
Buying a new planner
In other news, I’ve ordered myself a new planner for the year – which I almost always do around this time of the year, every year! Except, I seldom continue using it after a month or two. But I’m hoping this time will be different. I’ve decided to use it not just as a planner, but as a journal as well. Nothing too elaborate – just a space to jot down the little things each day. Yes, the little joys. So keeping my fingers crossed. Wish me luck!
Until next Sunday, take care my lovelies – and do what makes you happy!
